California Freeways is a work in progress that began in 1989 with photographs of the Century Freeway during its construction and continues beyond the destruction of parts of the Interstate 5 Freeway as a result of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. Between this 'birth and death' of California's seemingly immutable freeway system there lies a ceaseless assault from both nature and mankind that tests the limits of its design. This series of images explores the frenetic and occasionally serene landscapes within and around these marvels of human engineering.
